(Notes of July 2007) Tasted by a half pint at the Swim Inn, a JDW pub on the West Street, Sheffield; served cool by a sparkler-fitted swan-neck hand-pump.
A: slightly murky, dark amber hue, coming with a creamy beige froth that sustains well and leaves very tight lacing as it retreats.
S: light orangey fruits as the main theme, skirted by a lighter but deep malty aroma like caramelised sugar.
T: the initial apple & toffee-ish maltiness quickly succumbs to a lightly spicy and herbal or tea-ish hop bitterness, turning chewy and impressively woody-tannic in the finish, where a good wave of bitter herbs also lingers.
M&D: although the cask is not at its prime, the taste still shows lots of potentials to be a decent and quaffable traditional English Bitter, especially in the bitter apartment that is truly impressive.
