Before the month ended (see notes re: limited relese above), had to stop in at the Ecotrust Laughing Planet for another pint...ya' know, for the chimps.
A: Lighter shade of brown, about the color of chestnut. Near-perfect clarity when held to light. Hardly any carbonation, a few wriggling paths of tiny bubbles. Shallow off-white head and a fair amount of dappling lace.
S: Aroma of roasted nuts, honey-sweetened and a little buttery. Dusting of cocoa.
T: Big roast! Very husky graininess, melded with a spicy-piney hop backing. Nutty, chewy chocolate, then a drier ashy char to a lengthy mineral conclusion. Early sips weren't as impressive, but the layered after-effects of a gradually warming, steadily-waning pint made quite an impression: packed with flavor, the kind that evolves.
M: Smooth after a frantic roil of carbonation upfront. What starts mild in feel builds to a lasting bitterness. Medium body, dry finish.
D: If this is what it takes to help monkeys, then it's a job I'll willingly do. A nice 'everyday'-type brown ale, that's low on alcohol, rich on flavor and is one Fearless should consider returning to in the future.
