Black Nun is our extra-rich, intensely toasty and subtly spicy homage to the legendary English Porters of the 18th century.

Poured from fridge temp into a Celebrator glass. Pours dark brown with nice tan head. Nose is amazing. Raisins, bread, malts, blackberries, figs. Taste is incredibly smooth. Chocolate, toffee, raisins, figs, huge malts, sweet candy, and some charred wood. Mouthfeel is super creamy. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall a fantastic porter!

Aroma is dry dark malts and very nutty. The flavor is dark malts, chocolate, mild dark fruit/tobacco/fruit and a dryish/slightly tart//sour/acidic finish.

22 oz. bottle

Pours black with a lasting creamy tan head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of rich dark chocolate, toffee, licorice, light coffee-like roast.

The taste is of chocolate, toffee, light coffee, with licorice spicing in the semi-sweet finish.

It has a smooth medium body. Some alcohol warmth shows without being raw or overwhelming.

A rich, sweet-leaning porter with a nice dark chocolate-like character.

Almost black, but still some rubt highlights in the corners of glass. Mild aroma, some chocolate sweetness. Taste is a bit acidic, roasted malt. Thicker body

A: The beer is very close to being black in color—when held up to a bright light the far bottom of the glass is clear dark red in color. It poured with a two finger high light tan head.
S: Moderate aromas of dark malts are present in the nose along with faint hints of roast.
T: As in the smell, the taste is mostly dominated by flavors of dark malts and has some subtle hints of sweetness.
M: It feels somewhat lighter than being medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This German "Imperial Porter" seems like it is more like a Schwarzbier with its dark malt characteristics and lack of bitterness. It makes for a good choice if you are looking for something that is dark and complex but lighter in body for the summer months.

This beer is great. It's actually the beer that is making me write my first BA review--this one. For those familiar with Keegan Ale's Mother's Milk, it's like that (but from an 800 year old German brewery).
