Pours a nearly opaque, brown in the glass, only revealing a little clear, reddish color when held up to the light. Tan foam appears briefly, but lacing persists thereafter. Smell is the standard German mix of grain and grassy hops, but with a significant overtone of roasted coffee. Flavor is similar, strong grain to start, sufficiently roasted to be reminiscent of a rauchbier. Hops comes on in the middle, with the sweet grain fading away, leaving a very dry combination of roasted grain and hops to finish. Body is light to medium with a very crisp finish, on par for the style, from the roasted grain, hops and moderate carbonation. Overall this is very tasty, true to the style but with a little more roast than typical.

Almost solid black appearance with a lasting thin tan head
Medium light carbonation with about a medium body
Aroma is roasted malt, roasted grains, grainy bread with mild coffee
Taste doesn't stray too far from the aroma, dry roasted grain finish that lingers
Overall a very well done beer

Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle GmbH "Anas Geheimnisse Schwarzbier"
500 ml can coded "14.08.2025. NSD P056140524". Sampled on 03.11.2024
$59.99 / 24 can case - Costco's Biergarten Collection, Costco, Christiana, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a clear, very dark brown that appears black in the full glass. When held to the light it appears as a dark ruby. The aroma displays dark malt with suggestions of caramel and dark chocolate. The taste takes those suggestions and makes them real. It's lightly sweetish with notes of medium and dark caramel, dark chocolate, and a smoky roastiness. Schöen! A firm bitterness balances it, and it finishes dry with some residual dark caramel, roastiness, and smokiness lingering. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. The only drawback here is that the head retention and lacing could be better but in terms of being a schwarzbier it's right on.

From the half liter can in the 2024 Biergarten Collection from Costco, it pours a solid dark brown color with reddish highlights and a nice light brown head that slowly reduces and leaves lacing. The nose gets a clean roasted malt scent. The mouth follows with a nice roasted malt flavor that is amazingly light. The feel of the brew is light and creamy, particularly with the head.

500 ml can from the 2024 Biergarten Collection (Costco). A BB date of 14 August 2025 is stamped on the bottom of the can.
Outstanding appearance. The head looked (creamy and tall) and acted like (excellent retention and lacing) like a nitro pour. The medium-high carbonation seems well suited to the aroma and flavor, and contribute to the near creamy mouthfeel of this light+ bodied lager.
As expected, this improved with some warming, with the flavor rating nearing 4.
