Pours a medium brown, opaque except around the edges of the glass. Foam is tan in color, light in quantity and quickly disappears. Smell is malted grain. Flavor starts heavy with grain and malt, hops comes on in the middle and carries the flavor through the finish. Body is medium density, with a smooth mouthfeel from the hops and trace of carbonation. Overall , this is a very good imperial porter, a fine example of the style. Perhaps the only thing that distinguishes it from American examples is the grassy German hops in the aftertaste.

Part of the variety 24-pack 16.9oz cans Costco $59.99
208 days before best by date
Smell of coffee, roasted malts
Dark black color
Medium-heavy mouthfeel
Medium-light carbonation
Taste of coffee, roasted malts, slight creaminess, a little bit on the watery side, hides alcohol well
Overall a fairly good straightforward beer. Nothing added like most imperial porters, which is not a bad thing.

500ml can from Costco's Holiday Biergarten Collection.

This imperial porter is certainly one of the best brews in this 24 pack. That's partially due to the style but mainly due to their execution of the style. This has plenty of dark malted grain flavor, well hidden ABV, and a good balance of bitter and sweet.

Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle GmbH "Traditions Gebrau Lecker Und Frisch Imperial Porter"
500 ml can coded "21.07.2025 NIP P049210424" and sampled on 29.10.2024
$59.99 / 24 can - Costco's Biergarten Collection, Costco, Christiana, DE

Notes via stream of consciousness: From the Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle, southeast of Berlin on the Czech border, comes "Traditions Gebrau Lecker Und Frisch Imperial Porter". That's a change for a German brewery, an Imperial Porter at 8%! For those that don't speak German the name means "Traditionally Brewed Tasty and Fresh". This is yet another beer from the Costco box that's been brewed in Germany but shipped to Poland for packaging and I'm assuming that these are beers that come from smaller breweries that either only produce draft beer, or more likely, just draft and bottles, and in this case a can is needed so the importer has arranged for that. It's poured a very dark brown body that's actually close to becoming black but hen held to the light you can see that it's actually brown, and there are some nice dark crimson highlights to it. The head is a creamy cap of light tan foam. In the nose I'm getting sweetish and grainy dark malt with a hint of dark chocolate and some fruitiness backed by a delicate waft of soft roastiness. It's clean and welcoming. The taste is fairly rich, on the sweeter side, and grainy, caramelish, and chocolatey. I get an apple and red berry-like fruitiness but no real roastiness; it does arrive but only in the lingering finish, and even there it's mild. It's like the roastiness of dark chocolate. There's just enough bitterness to keep it in check and although it's on the sweeter side I don't think of it as a sweet beer as it finishes mostly dry with some leafy hops emerging in the lingering, chocolatey finish. The alcohol never really shows but I'm sure that it's helping to dry the finish just as much as the hop bitterness. In the mouth it's medium-full, and quite smooth across the palate. So what to say about this? It's labeled "Imperial Porter", and I'm thinking Baltic porter. Having said that I've had richer and more intense Baltic porters but I've also had some that were flawed, and I don't find any problems here. Nicely done.

I think in the past I haven't liked porters. This one had a kind of off taste to start, and maybe it's the 8% alcohol, but it got better as the can went down. This does not always happen. So overall, it's not bad but not one I'll go looking for either, it's ok but nothing special.
I'm going thru the Costco Biergarten box, saving what I expect to be best (helles) for last.
I like this box better than the advent box the last few years. The ones I dislike aren't as strongly disliked. Hope the ones I like are just as good.

From the half liter can in the 2024 Biergarten Collection from Costco, it pours a clear dark brown/black with a modest light tan head that reduces to a ring and leaves lacing. The nose gets some roasted and black malts followed by the mouth getting the same, with a minor slightly bitter aftertaste.
