Okay this is something that gave me a hard time to find - and even now I’m not even sure that I got the right one. Here’s the thing: in Japan, Costco sells this beer called Belgian Gold, made by the Melchers Group. I searched high and low but found NOTHING about this beer anywhere outside Japan, not even on Melchers’ website. Melchers only seem to brew this Gold lager (called Dutch Gold) which interestingly shares exactly the same features with this Belgian Gold so I connected the dots and told myself that these two beers might even be the same very thing, under a different name, exclusive for Japan? Dunno.
Anyway, here’s the beer.
A very intersting one indeed! Looks a bit richer than your average pale lager and smells better too, not the skunk but more like a märzen - which brings me to the taste of the beer, it’s quite like a märzen to be honest. It has a rounder quality, balanced out by some malt sweetness and a medium full body. Has a nice taste that dissipates quite quickly so it’s not REALLY your true märzen but it’s as good as it gets for this dirt cheap, think it was less than 20 bucks for 24 cans. They say it’s made in Belgium, but the company is in the Netherlands. Not Belgian at all, could pass for a good Dutch. Was worth buying it!

Poured a medium straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured a light sweet malt and mildly spicy hop.
The taste consisted of a mildly sweet and husky grain. There were some corn blandness noted.
The mouthfeel was clean and light.
Overall an easy to drink lager, but nothing too exciting.

Another of those beers that you can only find at Trader Joes.
Pours a clear golden Lager as advertised by the can.
Smell is grain, yeast and sweet malt. Smell is rather neutral and has no outstanding aspects to it.
Taste is a bit sweet sour and metallic. Really neutral flavor with a decent amount of hops that provide bitterness and not much else.
Mouthfeel is OK.
Drinkable as in bland and not really noticeable. Take a Budweiser and add hops till it is noticeable and that is what you have here. Nothing here to recommend this brew but it doesn't taste bad, just tastes blah.
