A little after noon on a sunny Friday afternoon I found myself bike riding by the Great Britain Hotel in Richmond. Okay, it wasn’t exactly an accident…this is another one of my BeerCapades. Heck, I even brought my camera to take the picture you see above.
Anyways, I was the first patron to belly up to the bar, which isn’t an unheard of occurrence for me. I strolled in to find a darkish bar with deep richly painted walls, a pool table and a bar with a decent selection of taps. Mountain Goat IPA and Hightail Ale, Coopers Sparkling and Extra Stout, Little Creatures Pale and Pilsner, James Squire Amber, Guinness and Cascade Premium. The bottles were pretty much the same with a Buckly’s Bitter and Southwark Stout added. Import selection is fairly uneventful with Stella, Asahi, Beck’s, Tiger and Corona. The bartender seemed fairly knowledgeable on the beers and seemed amused at my dismay of not finding any British beers at the Great Britain Hotel. My initial impression of the place is that it’s a nice little bar, with one of the better selections of tap beers in the area. The name might be a little misleading, though.

semi trendy/semi traditional pub thats become a bit of a legend in these parts for its house beers, the beautifully named piss and piss weak. not a bad place to head every so often for a change of scenery.

good service behind the bar, and the owner seems to know a good beer from a bad one. had a fairly good selection there, top of the tree being little creatures pale ale. this alone makes the GB worth checking out. along with this and the house brews, also has coopers (often the dark which is not easily found in this state and is a pretty good drop on tap). occasionally has a rotation of local micros as well. the prices are pretty good too. the other thing i like about this place is it has galaga on the old style table top console. i try to get a few games in before the beers cloud my judgement in a big way lol. if youre hungry, the pizza place across the road will deliver straight to the bar.

nice little set up here and one certainly worth adding to the itinery if even only just to have the great little creatures.
