on tap @ porter beer bar. clear golden with a smallish white head. beer filled 1 inch below rim. aromas of biscuit dough & spice. bready malt flavor, nice zesty hop bitterness. lingering dry hop zest with a great malt balance. quite drinkable. nice quaffable offering from abc.

Pours medium dark amber with creamy white foam. Laces.

Mild smell; hard to pick up anything discernable.

Smooth taste with creamy hoppy flavors buried underneath. Taste fades as beer warms and becomes harder to drink. Bitterness lingers.

Enh. So so.

Had this one on-tap at the Keg and Barrel in Hattiesburg, MS. Poured a very attractive golden color with a bit of an orange tint to it. Decent white head that lasted a while and had good lacing. Nice malty taste with a bit of hop presence. I thought this was very smooth with the proper amount of carbonation. Surprised to find out the ABV was 6.7%. Drinkability was high and I had several.

Pours a golden-straw color with a half-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of sweet and slightly bready malts with mild amounts of grassy and leafy hops. As the beer warms the bread aromas intensify a bit. None of the aromas overpower the others.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Light and mildy sweet malt flavors kick things off, and similar to the smell hints of breadiness are in tow. Midway through the sip the already mild sweetness is made even milder courtesy of grassy hop flavors with tinges of citrus fruits. The hop flavors carry through to a mildly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass with no problems and could have anotoher.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. It's not exactly true to style but it sure is easy to drink. Worth a shot.

Found on tap at the Taco Mac on Windward Parkway, the Helles Bock was a bit hazy, and looked deep golden in color. I didn't pour it of course, but head a bit small too. The smell was surprising with a zing of noble hops more akin to Pils than a Maibock. The taste was quite bitter, as the hopping rate was beyond that of Billy Goats and approaching the Easter Bunny. The malt was there though, and came out nicely with some warming body temperature. A nice and bright welcome that put a spring in my step.

Appearance: Clear, orangey body topped by a small, though dense white head.

Smell: Aroma of bread and toasted grains with a drizzle of spiced caramel.

Taste: Toasted grains and bread hit with a candyish caramel sweetness. Medium spicy hop bitterness. Slight yeastiness. Finishes dry, with some further bitterness and some of the alcohol showing up.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: A pleasant helles bock that makes for refreshing late Winter/early Spring drinking. Great? Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, but it's always nice to see Atlanta Brewing Company trying new things.

The beer was served in a standard pint glass. The beer has a clear golden straw color with a decent sized foamy white head. The aroma is consists of soft toasty and bready notes along with a touch of floral hops. I had expected to detect the smell of fusel alcohols, but none were present. Taking a sip of the beer, I was immediately struck by how smooth and easy to drink the beer was. My experience with other strong lagers is that many of them end up tasting boozy and therefore are difficult to drink. In this case, the subtle breadiness is countered nicely with hops for a very well balanced beer. The overall flavor of the beer is not exactly in your face but is tasty and very drinkable nonetheless. Additionally, it is coupled with a very nice medium-full body that only increases the smoothness of the mouthfeel.
