Reviewed from notes taken February 2015.
Served on-draught at The Ginger Man, New York, NY.
6% ABV.
HEAD: 1 finger's worth of head height. White in colour, with a soft even consistency. Smooth, full, creamy, robust, luscious. Has a stellar complexion. No lacing sticks to the glass as the head recedes. Head retention is below average (~1 minute).
BODY: Hazy orange-yellow in colour. Murky, but no yeast/lees or hop sediment are/is visible.
AROMA: Orange juice, citrusy fruity hop aromatics, wheat, faint funkiness probably from the yeast(s), clean 2-row, zest.
A pleasant aroma of below average intensity. I find no overt boozy or off-notes.
TASTE: Tart, with a fresh refreshing wheat and neutral malt/2-row barley backbone. Hopping is (aptly) minimal.
Hints of fresh juicy fruit: mango, tangerine, orange..it's citrusy if anything.
Average depth, duration, and intensity of flavour.
Balanced but nowhere near as sour or wild in character as would be ideal; sourness is about a 3/10 in terms of intensity.
I do like it, but it feels reticent, lacking expressiveness or vivid flavour. Not impressively intricate, but adequately so.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, clean, fairly refreshing, perfectly carbonated, and light in body.
Suits the flavour profile well but doesn't elevate the beer as a whole or effectively accentuate specific notes.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.
OVERALL: Highly drinkable. This is a nice albeit mild sour for what it is, but discerning sour ale drinkers will crave far more sourness, tartness, and acidity. The sourness blends well with the fruit, but this never quite comes together into a gestalt whole of a beer and it lacks the complexity and nuance of better expressions of the style. Tasty stuff nevertheless, and I'm glad I got to try it. I wouldn't mind revisiting it in finer grain.

(Second batch, 5/20/15 at the brewery)
A lemony tart quality, sweet tarts, lactic tart of Greek yogurt, a wheat base.
The aroma did not explode like the first batch for some reason, but instead drank of an exceptionally creamy Berliner, or the tart qualites of a Westbrook Gose.
(First batch, at Torst)
Wow! How did I not know about this NY brewery before?
The beer freaking explodes of pure passionfruit, grapefruit, guava, pineapple. Despite being a wild ale, this aroma conquers almost all DIPAs that I've had, and that is coming from a DIPA lover. It is absurd how juicy and fruity the aroma is.
The flavor is more simple with the fruits more nuanced up front, a refreshing carbonation, and funky and slightly tart qualities.
I expect amazing beer from this brewery.
