Appearance: Sunflower golden yellow body with enormous bubbles and a fizzy white head that just can't hold itself together for more than a few seconds. Pathetic.
Smell: Weak all around, with lots of sulfur up front and barely discernable notes of burnt sugar, Crystal-esque malts, starchy adjuncts, and estery hops.
Taste: A bit like hop-infused sparkling water, with a pleasant bitter zip throughout and a nice dry finish, but with nothing holding it together. Malts are exceedingly thin.
Mouthfeel: Beyond light, but the frothy carbonation actually serves to make this beer somewhat chewable.
Drinkability: Just take it straight from the ice-cold can and it'll go down easy. Avoid letting it warm or sniffing it.

i haven't had this style in a while. i've been busy trying all kinds of amazing beers on my trip to seattle. so, while this "beer" is definitely bad, it doesn't help that it's the worst i've had in a long time. having said that, i have indeed tried many different takes on the happoshu style, so i know the style well. (not that i'm proud of it ;))
pretty good-looking for the style. typically golden clear, but extra bubbly, with an impressive long-lasting head. the smell is totally happoshu. cheap beer, sour, adjunct, actually very little beer to smell, mostly acrid tap water.
average looks and smell. this is expected from a japanese near beer. but the taste threw me off. bad! really bad! i'm getting flashbacks of my college days, drinking too much and puking, because this reminds me of bile. also get some wet cardboard. nasty, harsh, no redeeming qualities. it's hard to find anything good to say about akinama. well, at 6.5% maybe this would be good if extremely cold and consumed out of the can at some outdoor event. i wouldn't get it again though. this is bad, even for a happoshu. i almost gagged.
