a nice green and beige can distinguishes bonne biere from the pack in the j-mac section of the convenience store.
crystal clear straw yellow, with a very brief head, this looks rather average. the smell, like the design of the can, separates this from the rest. a lot going on, surprisingly spicy and fruity for such an apparently boring pale lager
goes down well, i could drink several of these in a "session". definitely good for a japanese beer

Brewed with 100% natural water. I imagine that is in contrast to preternatural water. Also, all of the malt used in brewing this beer is from the Champagne region of France.
A - Clear yellow body with a small white head
S - Extremely faint malty aroma, with nice spicy saazy notes.
T - Very nice mild malt, with the saazy spice. This beer is extremely light in flavor, which I conjecture is a result of brewing with sugar. That being said, what flavor is there is very nice.
M - Very light mouthfeel, nice mild carbonation. Although watery, this adds to the drinkability.
D- This is a great light beer.

This is a new beer from Suntory, released Oct. 18, 2005, and is only being sold at convenience stores in Japan. The can, and accompanying website, state that it is made from barley from Champagne, France, along with Saaz hops and "natural water of Japan."
It is possibly the palest yellow beer I've ever seen. The thin bright white head quickly falls, leaving no lace. Definitely not a good-looking beer.
The aroma is virtually non-existent. Perhaps just a hint of hops, and a slight mustiness. At this point, I wasn't expecting much.
At the first sip, this beer surprised me. I was expecting a typically insipid, flavourless lager. Instead, I got a decent, subtle and enjoyable brew. While the malt base is quite thin and leaves a fair bit to be desired, the hops are really quite nice. Gentle, but flavourful. Unexpected. Did I mention this is sold only at convenience stores?!
It's very thin and watery on the palate. Seriously, the big problem here is a lack of malt. It needs to be toughened up a bit, at which point this would be a good beer.
Unexpectedly, I enjoyed this beer. While the appearance and aroma are still far below average, the flavour and nice Saaz hops saved it. Worth a try, and definitely better than the bulk of what's available at Japanese convenience stores.
