I had this beer at the Fort York Beer Festival in Toronto. Being a scoth Irish brew, and a cask conditioned ale, I was excited to try it. It was a dark mahogany color with a nice tan head with good retention and shields of lace. The aroma is malty with bready and spicy highlights. Theres also a pleasant roasted malt character in the nose. The taste is malty with some smokey, roasted flavors. Theres a bit of chocolate and sherry as well. Hops are definitely there though they play second fiddle to the malt. Earthy hops show up most prominently in the finish. The mouthfeel is textured and complex, with low carb.

Overall this is a great scotch ale. At 8.5 percent, its pretty light tasting too. This was one of the few highlight at the Toronto beer fest.

Slightly cloudy, medium amber with little head. Mild aroma with a bit of citrus showing through. Malty sweetness complemented by a bit of fruit, a strong hop bitterness, and a hint of bananas. The bitterness was well balanced at the finish. The body was about right for a scottish ale, but the (enjoyable) bitterness was probably a little bit much.

Hops seemed to have disapeared in their storage for St. Lawrence Market tastings. This one for sure had hops go away. Malt there, and a fiant spectrum of herb, but the dominant flavour was smoke. Brown-yellow colour and white head. Whiskey hint in mid-sip. A scottish but could crossover to a smoked.
