This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a nice little white cap of a head sitting atop of the beer. No lacing. The aroma had some burnt toast, dark malts, grassy and piney hops. The flavor had some sharp bitter piney-ness to it initially. Malts stay in the background. Blended malty to hoppy aftertaste with the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation. Decent ABV. Overall, this is a schwarzbier? Where’s the German yeastiness? Hmmmm....Closer to a black IPA. I don’t know, maybe again.

Appearance: Black with brown trimmings when exposed to light, the head was only a spiderweb on top of my glass.
Smell: Grainy, but not necessarily roasted grain, it had a milk chocolate odor that developped into a peculiar lactic funk that became more and more unpalatable as the pint got consumed.
Taste: The roasted disposition was very evident in the palate, with dark fruits, plums, and blackberries, but the aftertaste soon turned to stale coffee. A big letdown for me, I'm thinking that I probably got the first pint of the day (we got there at opening) and the tap lines were consistent with how the rest of the pub looked and weren't very clean...

Served black with a nice tan head. Actually I quite liked the flavor, but it doesn't match the style at all. This was not a schwarzbier, but a stout fermented with lager yeast. Very much the roasty!! Not a bad beer by any means, but not at all to style for a beer named only by it's supposed style.
