An interesting take on the Scottish style; sort of a cross between an English IPA and a traditional Scotch beer; not quite a wee heavy I think. Reddish-brown and a little cloudy with a nice head that has some retention to it. Decent lace. Nose is full of malts, hints of sweetness and peat, and a touch of grassy hops. In the tasting the hops are definitely more forward than is traditional for a Scotch ale. I liked it though; it's very well balanced between the hops and malt, which are a little sweet and a little smoky. Medium carbonation, easy drinking, very tasty. Worth a try if you see on it on tap at the brewery. A little surprising and definitely different.
