A wet hop ale brewed with hops picked just three hours before boiling, Hop Harvest is clear gold with light carbonation and nearly absent head and lace. It projects a bright sugar-pine aroma. I’ve heard it said that beers brewed with hops this fresh become infused with chlorophyll. That might account for the slight herbal tea flavor here. Presumably the light measure of dry crispness is derived from rye. This offsets the low attenuation featured so prominently in the taste where big bready malts abound.

These days half the brewers in the state are brewing fresh hop ales, and this is one of the better ones I’ve tasted. Both the recipe and the execution are commendable, making for an all-around decent session ale that skillfully avoids the tannic astringency so often affecting wet hop ales.
