Note: I like the chile beer style overall, so don't take my review as a slam of the style.
Appearance: A clear light amber is poured from my growler no more than a few hours after it came off of the tap and the head that formed quickly dissipated leaving a flat looking beer with oils on the top. I know that it can be tough to get the pepper flavoring in there without much oil and that the oils lead to lack of head retention, but I think that when the head disappears in less than 6 seconds and oils are visible on the surface, that it is too much.
Smell: Smells almost completely of green chiles. There is no hops aroma present. Smells more like a tonic of chiles than a beer.
Taste: This beer obviously contained the green chile flavor, but also had some mild hops flavor along with some maltiness. There really was no complexity to the beer as with the degree of heat that this beer has, there wasn't much left to focus on. This is a hot beer that will burn the mouths and throats of the uninitiated. This beer is not for the weak. There was a somewhat sweet aftertaste though. This would be a good beer to have with rellenos, but there are better beers in the style
Mouthfeel: Very slick and oily, HOT, too much to handle for people who don't LOVE peppers. Notice I didn't say like, I said LOVE, because while I like pepper beers, this one was a might too hot for casual consumption.
Drinkability: While I drained the half-gallon growler in the next 24 hours, this might not be an easy feat for most people. Have a glass of this one before you take home a growler!
