Pours near jet black into a glass from a bottle. The head is small, beige and less than a finger in height before it diminishes to surface froth after a short moment.
Aroma is chocolate malts, sweet mild coffee, some smoky grain and cola. Flavour is sweet, smoky barley, burnt chocolate, mild expresso and a bit of sticky bourbon and fig. There is a sweet smokiness that permeates through the whole beer giving the bitterness from the mature flavours a balance. There is also a slight watery component which gives a slightly metallic note to the palate.
The body is medium and a bit thin for my tastes. Carbonation is negligible and the stout is smooth and silky.
Overall a bit lacking across every department which is disappointing. NIce enough but could've been so much more.
