A 500ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2018, so it's just out of date. Purchased a little while back from Home Bargains. The label describes it as a strong, malty Northern ale. Gold medal winner in '98.

A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A bright coppery-amber colour with excellent clarity and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of caramel malt with hints of grain, barley sugar, toasted malt, fruity ale yeast, faint leafiness and overtones of diacetyl. OK but unexciting.

T: Tastes of caramel malt with notes of toasted grain, barley sugar, ale yeast, subtle fruity esters, faint leafiness and a diacetyl twang in the background. Quite sweet, followed by an understated bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and decent body. Aftertaste of caramel malt, barley, fruity ale yeast and faint leafy hops.

O: Pretty average fare, though probably due to it coming from a bottle. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are malty and sweet with yeasty hints. Shame about the diacetyl. Body is OK. Would likely be better from a cask. Drinkable but forgettable - no need to seek it out.

Bottle. Clear amber. Frothy and lasting head.
Light lemon aroma with mild caramel malt.
The bouquet continues into the taste. Fruit biscuit noticed. Bitter finish.
Low to medium carbonation and feel.

 

One of the best cask beers around if you can get it on draught. Very smooth with wonderful flavour. Pity it's not widely available in my neck of the woods.

(Notes of 27/06/07) Tasted by a pint at the Lord Moon of the Mall, a JDW pub nr. the Trafalgar Sq., London. Non-sparkler hand-pull.

A: slightly dark golden in colour; an off-white fluffy head sits on top of moderate streams of micro-scopic fizziness, leaving tight lacing.
S: floral hops, a touch of fruitiness like passion-fruit, and biscuity malts come together with a damp woody smell a bit like a sherry... At the second level are hints of grass, sour-sweet nectar, and citrus fruits. Overall, hoppy yet well-balanced.
T: richly juicy malts upfront are ensued by even more pronounced, thick Goldings or Challenger's citric hop bombardment, turning lively bitter with a softly spritzy mouthfeel. The vertical structure of hop bitterness precedes a deep, soothing, dryish and slightly powdery herbal bitter aftertaste. The more I drink it, the palate seems to evolve all the time... as the semi-sharp bitterness in the mouth is constantly softened by the malt counterpart.
M&D: really fresh and lively, med-bodied, all in all a thirst-quenching, delicious Golden Ale!

The ale poured a cloudy deep yellow with minimal head and a good amount of carbonation. Had a spicy malt aroma but taste was lacking- not much, only some fruity watered down malt with a slightly bitter end. Very light mouthfeel, and low abv. Everything about this brew is timid and very inoffensive. Easy to drink, but for the price I won't bother to again.

Not a whole lot to discern this one from every other average ESB I’ve had. It’s a pale copper, with pretty much no head. It’s a bit hazy, but not quite cloudy. The aroma is malty with not a whole lot of hops. A bit of fruitiness there, but I can’t pin anything down. The flavor is a tad sweet and the mouthfeel is definitely a little flat.

Pours a one-fingered cream head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Clear, light amber color. Nose is a spicy malt. Light carbonation and light bodied. Starts with some hops but there is a sweetness too, finishes with a hint of hoppiness but not like a lot of pales. $5.99 for a 500ml bottle from Hoosick Street Discount Bev. Troy, NY.

Dark hazy orange, white head of foam leaves patchy lace on my pint glass. Aromas are of fresh biscuity malts, and citrus hops in a nice unison. This seems to be a maltier English pale ale than others with the hop flavors quite subdued when compared to other examples of this classic style. The taste is quite malty up front with a nice subtle hoppiness in the middle and a lovely crescent-like finish. Mouthfeel is certainly quite creamy, and drinkability is also very good. I had some of this at a small place called "mike's bar" in Edinburgh, it went awesome with the house special fish 'n' chips, mushy peas, and seasoned mash. A great meal for under a tenner!

This one poured a hazy orange color with minimal head that fell to nthing. The nose was sweet, bready, and a hint of fruity sweet raisin. The taste was a bit like a raisin nut bread to me. I found the beer to be just a shade thin. Drinkability was okay. This beer didn't impress me, but didn't do anything not to impress me either.

Half a liter bottle poured into a snifter. It pours a light copper color with just a little bit of head. Not much lace. The smell has a good balance, a little bit of sweet maltiness, and some hops too. The taste is sweet and nutty. Toffee and hazelnuts among some of the hops on the finish. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and smooth. The drinkability is good too. A decent pale.

This poured an amber color with a small head that dies off quickly. The aroma is malty and has some yeast/bread as well. Smells nice - a little sweetness. The flavor has a citrus hop character and a slight malty-sweetness. Somewhat of a slick mouthfeel. Bitter finish.

Appearance – This one is very interesting. The color is a deep, dark yellow that turns to light orange as you change the angle of the glass. The head is white and moderate.

Smell – This has a classic buttered biscuit aroma smothered in apricot jam and chased with a light apple cider.

Taste – The apple and apricot come out much more in the taste helped along by a bit of citrus-type of hop. The buttery malt steps back a bit but still supplies good support.

Mouthfeel – This is the ale’s strong point, IMO. It is incredibly smooth and creamy, much like the Workie Ticket cousin I had last night. It is also completely flat and a notch or two below medium-bodied.

Drinkability – This is an excellent session ale but, at over five bucks a bottle, a bit on the pricey side.

Very spare, large bubbled head, reluctant to form and even more reluctant to stick around for a while. Orange-bronze body, very clear. Spotty lacing.

Sweet and malty aroma, with yeast mixed in. A very nice aroma.

Low carbonation, slick and buttery in the mouth. Musty and slick taste, toasty around the edges. Bitter, of course.

Almost disappointing because it was so flat, but saved by a decent taste and fine aroma.

Clear amber color (I thought this was bottle-conditioned?) with a pale head of very small bubbles that starts at 1/8 of an inch and declines. Some diacetyl in the aroma and tastes. Buttery caramel malt sense but rather thin mid and late mouth -- well-balanced with a nice floral-like hop. This beer was kind of limited in impression, but I liked it more than Workie Ticket, which seemed to promise more. Limited in profile, Radgie Gadgie nevertheless is pretty drinkable and refreshing.

500mL. bottle. Bottle conditioned. Hazy peach color with a thin layer of foam. Lovely toasty, fruity, hoppy aroma. Some white grape and apricot are noted in the flavor with a biscuity, mild sweetness and hoppy finish. The aromatic American Willamette and English Challenger are used. A light but flavorful malt backbone balances things out. A marvelous classic bitter with plenty of character.
