Has a black color that edges toward a thinner dark brown, 1/2" tan head. Aroma gave some c hops and chocolate malt. Maybe some brown.

Taste popped hops unexpectedly. Could also be because of the thinner malt base apparently. Its not terrible, but not going to be a stout aficionado's jam either.

Pours black and fades to a dark brown. A little thinner than preferred. Aroma was hops n chocolate.

Taste, more of the same. As the ipa wasn't hopped anything beyond average at best, the stout seems to have more bitterness, although this could be from the coffee flavors or seven roasted malts. Falters a littledown the stretch, but where it becomes thin, it does still keep the bitterness and at the same time, keeps it's enjoyability and drinkability.

A: Dark brown and unfiltered color. Thin but sticky foam head with decent lacing.

S: Chocolate and sweet spice smells make for an enjoyable prep for the first taste but could use some more definition in the hop arena considering the taste and mouth feel of the stout.

T: Hop flavors with strong malty taste with a good molasses after taste. Could use some work on pulling out some additional flavors but good taste in general.

M/D: Light body and easy to put down and coinsidentally it had a slight spiciness to it that was a surprise to me. I liked it but will not be seeking it out.

Labeled the brewer's seasonal offering. I had to try this as apparently it's only offered once a year--according to the bartender.

Pours a jet black color with a thin one finger caramel colored head. Retention is pretty decent with a thick cappuccino like foam head that sticks to the side of the glass. Chocolate, coffee, caramel, molasses, and dark fruit notes all invade the nose at first. Thick and rich this seems from the aromas with the dark fruit cutting across all of them to level it all out.

Flavors are the same as in the nose. Chocolate and caramel at first with a nice infusion of coffee and a molasses like finish. Thick and rich on the palate. Not as heavy of a mouthfeel as it sounds, but coats the mouth as it goes down. I'm not sure of the abv on this sucker, but I'd assume it's in the mid 6's. Smooth and rich, this stout is one that will please. I was very happy with the chose after the first beer I had was just mediocre.

Pint glass.

Poured a nice dark burnt color with a beige head. The lacing down the glass was nice. Spotty and marshmellow like. Scents are deep malts, dark coffee and some carob. A good strong scent.

The flavors are heavily malted. Hence the name. The coffee flavors move to the front immediately. There is a nice pushy carob flavor. Some woodsy notes and a bitter malt as well. The hops just make the last act for a bitter but very pleasing send off at the end.

Mouthfeel is a bit weak sadly. It starts off with a medium body but finishes on the watery side. It drinks very easy as the flavors are well balanced. A few of these will go down nicely thank you.

Overall a good quality stout with some very positive offerings which out weigh any of its short comings.
