Nearly black in the pint glass with a nice foamy cap. Very attractive sudsy beer. Plenty of carbonation in the mouth.

The "Northwest" style of dark, hopped-up brew that seems to be an essential part of current brewpub repertoire. Lots of roasted malt and a stout-like tang of burnt barley. Dark caramel with a deep resiny flavor. The dank sort of hoppiness. Bitter in the middle and the long bitter aftertaste.

A big mouthful, and more like an IPA, but kind of murky flavors. On tap at the brewpub in the historic district a block from the Monterey Bay rail-trail and the Fisherman's Wharf.
