This is definitely the Liberator...

This beer has won some serious hardware at competitions over the years. Check it out... it's won multiple GABF and WBC medals. Is there a reason why?

Yes. The most distinguishing characteristic, for me, is the aroma. There is an abundance of melanoidin/fresh bread aroma from the malt, and it is sweet and enticing.

The beer has more hops than your typical german doppelbock, but let's face it, this is an American interpretation. Plus, knowing Dean, the brewmaster, I can understand.

This is a very chewy, full-bodied brew. The malty sweetness has hints of tofffe, and is balanced by a nice, peppery hop tone... perhaps German noble hops?

At any rate, look for this beer every spring. The brewers make it every fall or early winter, and let it age properly until March. It's a treat for all, especially on Tuesdays, when you can get a pint for only $2!

Dark bloody cherry hue, very limited head that had little retention but some lace. Sweet… malty yet alcoholic nose. Inviting. On the palate, it is sweet and fruity upfront with a solid malt foundation, nutty at times. Complex without yielding to the drinkability. Warms the soul and awakens your beer-loving spirits. Moderately-full body. This is a Doppelbock worth your time.

Served at the correct temperature.

The aroma of sweet, malty independence precedes the revolution. The banner of freedom is hoisted by dried dates, molasses, oak, citrus, and alcohol.

The dark, rusted wall is breached, and the oppressive khaki guard toward collapses slowly.

Now’s the chance!
Molasses is first through the gap, followed immediately by Liquorice. They round up the rest of their cellmates, Prune, Fig, and Date. Pumpernickel Bread, and Chocolate Powder are the next to arrive at the designated spot. Their oak and cedarwood confines linger in their memories, as a celebratory cigar is sparked, bringing notes of humid tobacco. Vanilla catches up and joins in exultation as they continue to distance themselves from their former penitentiary. Grape scampers up later, with Alcohol closely following.

Liberty is theirs!

But wait…
From far behind them, come the ecstatic shrieks of Orange. A forgotten inmate locked within the secluded hop ward. What was he doing there? An American in this German Prison? It makes no difference, as he joins his malted comrades in rejoice.

The structure that held them captive was now in ruin, as the air filled with a victorious thickness: A silken heft symbolic of their new-found liberation.

Viva la doppelbock.
Viva la Liberator.
