Had this one on-tap @ Aces & Ales Strong Beer Fest in Henderson NV. Served in a 4oz taster glass...

A - The pull pours a semi-hazy golden orange color with a 1/2 finger of egg shell white head. Nice lacing gripping the sides as I sip.

S - Big hop profile in the aroma. Tropical fruits, with citrus notes of orange and grapefruit.

T/M - The front of the taste is flowery and earthy, with a bitter lemon zest finish. Medium mouthfeel, good carbonation.

O - A great DIPA. Really big, bold hop profile, with a lasting hop resin aftertaste. The barrel was almost nonexsistant, but also no presence of any alcohol heat either. Very drinkable.

Served in a champagne flute at City Beer Store.

A: Some slight head. Cloudy-dark honey amber. Heavy lacing.

S: Resiny hops. Not much else. A slight sweetness, with fruit and alcohol.

T: Damn. Interesting. Chardonnay definitely comes through with a dryness and bright white grape. Then hops, grassy and subtly spicy. Verrry nice. Main taste is a light DIPA. Aftertaste is dry and intriguing, with herbs, wood, and wine.

M: A bit wet and a bit wines. Mediocre.

O: A fascinating and well-made beer. I might not have it again for a while, but I'd recommend it to others. Very nice.

A - Served a clear golden-copper color with a finger of frothy white head atop. The head fades down fairly quickly leaving behind some nice lacing.

S - Aroma is a nice mix of strong pine hops and a bit of citrus hops as well. There is also some oak and rich sweet caramel malt as well.

T - Starts off with lots of fresh pine hops and plenty of bitterness. Bit of oak in the background as well. Through the middle, more hops come through with some citrus, more bitterness, and some rich sweet caramel malts as well. The finish is big on the hops, bitterness, and oak flavors and lingers for some time.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a nice dry and resiny mouthfeel.

D - Very drinkable. Lots of big fresh hop flavor that blends really nicely with the malts and the oak flavor as well. Super tasty harvest ale.

On draft at Verdugo.

Big departure from regular hopsickle, vanilla and wood, some hoppiness.

Flavor follow closely behind the aroma, actually not as entertaining as I thought it would be, less hoppy then normal but with only minor barrel character really, sweet vanilla aftertaste.

A good beer, interesting but not as good as I hoped.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ, '09 Version,

A: Pours a copper red with a mild white head, good retention, great lace.

S: Quite piney, some booze and wood.

T: Nowhere near the hop bomb regular Hopsickle is, but it's still plenty hoppy. The aging has lessened it's hop attack a bit, but added some complexities from wood. Think a West Coast version of Burton Baton. Still pine city like regular Hopsickle.

M: Very smooth, but still sticky and chewy with hop resin. Full-bodied.

D: I think I still like regular fresh Hopsickle more because of the all out hop assault, but this is quite good. Very well balanced and very tasty.

Had this gem at the brewery on Cask. Tulip glass pour with a copper color ale and a bright white foamy head. Nice and hoppy aroma with citrus fruits shining through. Hoptastic taste! Major bitter bite with a huge malty backbone and a slap in your face bitter aftertaste which keeps my mouth salivating for more. Excellent. Smooth and creamy silk mouthfeel. A definite sipper but an excellent brew from Moylan's.

Overall I was ecstatic to see this on tap when I went to the brewery. It was served a little below room temperature which made the experience that much more enjoyable. I really enjoyed this beer and if you are lucky enough to ever find it on tap, don't hesitate to indulge.

On handpump at the brewery last weekend. This version was aged in Chardonnay barrels. While very good, it didn't blow me away as much as last year's Hopschnapps barrel aged version, which had one of the most explosive hop aromas I've ever encountered.

Pours a slightly hazy golden amber, a small white cap of head on top that dissipates quickly, leaving only a small ring.

The aroma is full of light sugary malts, alcohol, huge fresh resiny hops and vinous, slightly tart Chardonnay. The hops are still dominant and powerful, and the barrel character is surprisingly fitting, albeit strange.

Alcohol and resiny hops in the palate first, followed by flavors of sweet pale malt and honey. This is decidedly sweeter than regular Hopsickle, but it's not saccharine by any means. The texture is slightly syrupy, the body medium. It finishes with intense resiny bitterness, hops and Chardonnay lingering on the palate for ages.

Although I prefer last year's version, this is still great. Get it while it lasts.
