Served on cask at Al's of Hampden into a tulip. This version is "American Oak & Vanilla Beans."
A - Pours amber brown with a creamy one finger tall white head leaving thick webs of lacing down the glass.
S - Smells like your typical barleywine with a bit more earthy sweetness too it. Hints of vanilla, caramel, toffee, toasted oak, and some warming booze. Not too bad.
T - Starts off with a mix of light vanilla sweetness and dry wood tannins quickly giving way to a mix of bready caramel malt and mild alcohol burn. Finish is similar to the initial taste but with less vanilla, with a mix of sweetness and drying wood tannins. The flavors were good but it left me wanting a bit more.
M - Medium-Heavy body and flavor with moderately low carbonation. Slick feel at first becoming a bit thin toward the end. Plenty of lingering sweetness in the finish.
O - This was pretty good. I thought the flavors worked well together but it never really crossed over to being something special. Glad I got to try it tho.
