This was a pleasant surprise this evening. Ordered it at the brewery and it was served from tap in a shaker pint. Cloudy golden yellow color with a great head and wonderful, lacing. Rich bready smell. Taste was nicely bitter with a good malt backing. It went very well with my sausage entre!

Brickhouse Bricktoberfest is a relatively hoppy (30 IBU) 5% ale in a hybrid style.
I classified this as a "california common" partly due to the hybrid character. But it might be an anti-cal-common: I'm guessing it was fermented cool using ale yeast.
Whatever, the results are excellent. The malt base merges well into the sharp hoppy character. The balance is similar to the current california common style. The specific flavor recalls the early Anchor Steam Beer (as their distribution expanded to Southern California in 1969-70) when it was a revelation to young taste buds.
Brickhouse always has some good tasting, moderate alcohol choices, in addition to some more hefty brews.
