Had on tap at the Brick House in Patchogue, NY. Served in a pint glass.

Look: deep amber with a half finger of off white head, not much retention but a little bit of lacing.

Smell: pale malt, a bit of caramel and hints of floral hops stand out to me. Not much else here though.

Taste: follows the nose. Pale malt, a bit of caramel but its quite heavy handed in the floral hops in the finish. Its quite simple, with the floral hop character being fairly solitary in the hop department. Surprisingly, I get absolutely no other hop flavors at all. Just flowery.

Feel: medium thin, crisply carbonated, a bit bitter in the finish from the hops but that's all.

Drink: could be a sessionable brew if you wanted to.

Overall, its ok but it doesn't hold a candle to any other American Amber I've ever had. Better than the Nitro Boom Stout I had here the only other time I've been here but that doesn't say much. I wouldn't go out of my way for this but I wouldn't avoid it either. Cheers!

The beer pours a nice amber color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a light to mild hop nose supported by a pale and crystal malt aroma. The taste is decent as well. It has a dry, bitter taste that's primarily pale malts with a touch of caramel flavor. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a pretty good beer. It's your average American amber ale.

Reviewed on 8/9/08. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark amber with a thick tan head. Aroma of sweet malt. Flavor of light sweet malt, slight hops. Blandish, but quite drinkable and so far my favorite BrickHouse beer.

sampled this beer on a recent visit the day after a wedding on the north fork.
Beer arrives cold in a pint glass with a redish amber hue and creamy off white head of .5 cm that fades to surface layer quickly.
Aroma is caramel and grainy malt.
First sip reveals an average bodyand average carbonation, this is fairly fine bubbles and tingles across my palate.
Flavor is sweet grainy malt up front and rolls to some bitey slightly astringent hops with some general plant flavors as well. No hint of ABV anywhere a well crafted and balanced beer. Wont blow you away but I didnt find major flaws.

This beer has a very red amber body with no head and no lacing, unfortunately. The smell was pretty malty. The taste was very malty; it kind of reminded me of a bock, but lighter in body. The mouthfeel was decent, full-bodied and very smooth. This beer is pretty drinkable andI would recommend it. Smooth and easy-going nature makes it a great brew.

Pours a dim red amber color with an off-white head. Great retention and nice lacing going on. Light aromas of malt and some slight hoppiness. Tight little flavors of mild malt, sweet caramel, and light floral hops. Overall, a highly drinkable red ale, nothing spectacular but good nonetheless.

Poured a deep amber hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was dood retention and lacing.

The smell featured light malt and light flowery hop aromas. Nothing of real note.

The taste featured a balanced caramel malt and mild floweryy hop.

The mouthfeel was light and clean.

Overall certainly a drinnkable ale. Not much going on in the flavor department however.

I dropped into BrickHouse somewhat spontaneously and only had time for one pint before getting a growler to go. But between this red ale and Hurricane Kitty, a pale, I couldn’t find much to praise. Both beers were very clear visually, yet tasted unclean due to misplaced yeast byproducts. In the case of Boy’s Red, this unfortunate quality also cropped up in the aroma. The scathing bittering only enhanced this deficit.

Boy’s Red did leave an impressive array of lace. It is somewhere near amber with a deep ruddy blush and is described misleadingly on the menuboard as “malty.” Compared to most reds I’ve known, Boy’s Red is not malty at all, nor is it especially hoppy. It didn’t win my favor.
