This has to be some kind of joke. I'm not going to get all metaphorical with articulate descriptive language. This beer is plain disgusting. It is an embarrassment to beer. I honestly try to be fair in all my reviews. This is without a doubt, the most hideous beer I have tasted in over 100 cities. What a disgrace.

Brought a can back from Hong Kong trip. It had to fly in the base of the plane so probably got pretty cold.

A: Standard super clear, light piss yellow. Decent pale white head formed and immedietly died.

S: Not much. Some rice hulls maybe,

T: Its got that slightly bitter super dry aspect of japanese beers. Kinda like a cross between Asahii and carlsberg. Not as good as either though.

M: HIgh carbonation. Light. Duh.

O: This is better than most AAL out there. I prefer Carlsberg and Tsing Tsoa but this isnt the worst I've had in Asia.

I'm back! Dr. Who came along with Leela and K-9 and rescued me from the Cybermen. Thankfully, nobody messed with my reefer full of beer while I was gone, so another of my local, in-person trader, tone77's beers from his far out Far East trip survived. I am further thankful that this is a Blue Girl, because in today's parlance, a Blue Boy has little to nothing to do with Gainsborough. I am open-minded, but I don't swing that way, dig? In fact, I am going out to see how The Old Lady and I mesh in terms of boy/girl parts at the end of the month.

From the CAN: "Imported"; "Pilsener Lager Bier"; "Schutz-Marke" with Blue Girl holding a torch marked "Excelsior"; "A product of Jebsen Beer".

All of this blue beer is giving me blue ..., ahem. The blues. The Old Lady may (hopefully) help me with this at the end of the month, but in the interim, St. Louis' Blues got nothin' on me, dig?

What's really making me blue, however, is the fact that, following the Crack & Glug, none of these beers are blue! Where's the truth in advertising, man? Actually, it is a good thing as the human psyche is CANditioned NOT to eat or drink anything blue in color. Wow, what happened to my finger of foamy, bone-white head while I was typing? It simply up and disappeared. How rude! Nose was slightly corn/silage-like, but not terribly pronounced. Color was a dead-on sunshine-yellow with NE-quality clarity and King Midas has nodded off, figuring that gold is not on the menu tonight. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium and the taste was more tangy than corny. Going back to the earlier Hoppashu, it had that same sensation of licking batteries. Hmm. I do not know that I have ever sensed that before tonight. It was a fairly unobtrusive flavor, slightly malty-sweet, but really not as bad as many from the AAL style. Finish was semi-dry, nice on a hot, humid summer evening, but beyond that, I was generally underwhelmed. Call this damning with faint praise.

A humid and rainy evening in Hong Kong, and back to my room in the decrepit Chungking Mansions. Poured from a 16.9 oz. can. Has a light golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of grains, some malts. Taste is grains, slightly medicinal, a little off, almost like an Asian version of a Minhas product, but not quite that bad. Feels light in the mouth and overall there are better cheap lagers out there.

Available thoughout Hong Kong, usually in 640ml. Not obvious where from on label tho.

Difficult to review these Adjunct Lagers, especially when served cold, as they should be.

Standard looks, smell, feel true to style, which is great with, say seafood on a hot day. Notable character - for the wrong reasons - is a metallic sparkling mineral water aftertaste that builds.

Good memory for region, good on hot day, not much else. - However, not Bad beer.

Brought a can home from Hong Kong. The beer poured yellow, clear, fizzy yet thick, with a very small head and very bad retention. The smell included grain with not much else weak and not good. The taste was light not much flavor. The mouthfeel was light body and very clean. Overall this is a drink-to-get-drunk beer, or maybe a drink-to-cool-off beer, but definitely not a drink-to-enjoy beer. It isn't god-awful but it's far from recommendable.

Appearance: Yellow, good head.

Smell: Corn, sweet.

Taste: Follows the smell closely, sweet corn but not too sweet. Slick feel.

Drinkability: Not bad, decent thirst quencher for a Hong Kong evening.

Sitting around in Hong Kong, so decided to pick up some beers to review. Blue Girl is a decent cheapo lager, some sweet corn flavor without being cloying.

Served from a 750ml bottle into a small glass at a Hong Kong seafood restuarant. Label seems to imply it is a German import but doesn't specifically state where it comes from. Doesn't look too bad, standard pilsener pour. Can't smell anything specific. Taste is ok, a good thirst quencher that goes well with Chinese food. But I couldn't drink more than one bottle.

Reviewed in hk on 10/4 served in a wine glass.

Appearance: yellow and clear in color with 2 1/2 fingers head which dissipates quicky.

Smell: lemony and wheaty grain

Tatse: opens light in flavor with grains. There is a subtle malty/ citrus/ sweet green fruit profile which introduces itself but doesn't intensify and remains to the end leaving close a mild malty barely hoppy profile.

Mouthfeel: light bodied with moderate carbonation and clean and crisp.

Drinkability: highly drinkable and simple. Nice and easy session beer if you life a simple and slightly malty/ lemoney/ slightly hop taste in your beer.

Tried this in Hong Kong. It's everywhere there.

A - poured transparent straw yellow with 3/4" white head that disappeared quickly to leave minute lacing.

S - malts, grass, floral tones, hoppy freshness, apples

T - sweet up front followed by light hops and a balanced finish.

M - light bodied, light/medium carbonation

D - very drinkable for a thirst quencher.

Overall - There's nothing too special about this beer. It was served during dinner so I had some. Your typical mildly bland lager. Good for cheap sessioning. A little sweeter for a lager than I expected. Grassy. Goes decently with the Chinese seafood there but I would have preferred a Belgian Pale Ale.

Appearance: Yellow, clear, fizzy yet thick, with a very small head and very bad retention.

Smell: Flour, fresh buckwheat, canned corn, light DMS, ice that's been in the freezer too long. Weak and not good.

Taste: Sweet. Light. Very nearly devoid of any flavor whatsoever. Dry, lightly hoppy finish.

Mouthfeel: Airy, sparkly, frothy, and clean.

Drinkability: This is a drink-to-get-drunk beer, or maybe a drink-to-cool-off beer, but definitely not a drink-to-enjoy beer. It isn't god-awful but it's far from recommendable.

Bought this with a few other brews to sample at a 7-11 in Hong Kong. This was the best of the beer I sampled there. Claimed to be an "imported premium beer". Has a really pale yellow color. Very faint vegetable or rice aroma. Was cold and actually had some carbonation and subtle hop aftertaste.

A friend brought this back from a trip to Hong Kong recently as a souvenir.

Some history: Blue Girl was brewed in the 1700's in Bremen, Germany. In 1895, it was imported to Tsingtao, China for the German troops. Jebsen & Co. acquired Blue Girl in 1906 and introduced to Hong Kong & China. It's brewed by Oriental Brewery today. It claims to be a german style pilsner.

It comes in a clear bottle. Colour of your piss when you drink around 10 glasses of water. Pale, watery appearance. A hard pour resulted in a finger thick head, disappeared fast.

Nose is of sweet corn, and some hop aroma, reminiscent of any macro lager.

Taste was bearable. Maybe a little more flavour than say a Coors light. There was a decent amount of hop bitterness at the back. There was corn, and an odd and distinct after taste that seemed a bit metallic and like I was sniffing some glue.

This was like a fizzy soda water. Carbonated to the max. Oh well, I hope there are better beers than this available in Hong Kong.
