Bottle-conditioned beer; the BB date is 10/04/06.
A: in a goblet it pours a dark golden colour, with a fast-disappearing beer head and tea-like body--minimum carbonation~~
S: upfront is pineapple-fruity, peaty(!!), charred, lightly perfumy, yeasty, rounded but mild fruity hop aroma, covering a bed of soft pale malts--overall the nose is subtle as well as a bit exotic~~
T: slightly sour zesty and tangy savour upfront, on top of a prevailing raw-nutty palate and an almost ooh-long tea like tannic body at the back; a closer observation reveals more woody and lightly bitter, charred flavour on the palate as the zesty flavour pales, leaving an intensifyingly dryish, almost herb-medicine like bitter aftertaste in the long finish...
M: interesting--both tangy and bitter at the same time. The beer label says it contains wheat as well, and I have no doubt the grain certainly brings this golden bitter an extra touch of slightly sour, tangy kick. However, the palate remains overly soft and even flat, not as lively as the bottle-conditioning presumably should bring about, esp. given such a thick layer of sediments at the bottom.
D: not too bad golden ale, but it would be much more attractive and delicious if the condition is fresher and the texture more lively.
