On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY
A: The beer is quite hazy amber in color with some yellow hues. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that died down, leaving some lacing on the sides of the glass and a collar around the edge.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sweet malts are present in the nose along with slight hints of cabernet.
T: The taste has flavors of sweet malts and vanilla oak along with hints of cabernet. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The cabernet barrel aging completely changes the taste of this beer, making it resembling more of what you would expect from a barleywine—it's like the wine barrel aging neutralized the hops and rendered this into a barleywine. It is still rather drinkable considering its strength.
