On tap at Flatiron Hall in NYC, it pours pitch black color with a 2 finger foamy tan head that faded slowly and left minimal spotty lacing. Smells of black cherry soda, rye, wheat bread, yeast, cocoa powder and sweet fruit; very odd smelling for a stout as the fruity sweetness and funk were more prominent than the grains or malt that I expected from the looks. Tastes of cherry, black cherry soda, oatmeal, rye, wheat bread, yeast, cocoa powder, red wine and light peat moss; sweet tasting in general, there are more malty notes and the cherry flavor is strong and tart. Mouthfeel is thin and watery for a stout, with mild carbonation and a medium body that leaves a tart and slightly funky finish. The bartender told me after I finished it that it's a sour beer by design so it's really only a stout in name and appearance, so that made sense and pushed up the smell rating. Pretty nice change of pace beer, but certainly not a session brew.
