On-draught @ Randolph Beer, Brooklyn, NY.
Perfect acidity. Lemony twang. Fantastic smacky lactic sourness. Has a bit more sour oomph than many beers - to its benefit. Drinks clean and refreshing, boasting an apt light body and style-appropriate smoothness and wetness.
Balance is perfect. Excels in every respect, boasting terrific depth of flavour, ideal flavour duration (with twang lingering past the finish), and impressive complexity for a Berliner Weisse.
Having been underwhelmed by the cans of Kelso's core lineup I've tried, the last thing I expected when trying this was a Berliner Weisse so damn tasty. Not needing the twist of blood orange or other fruit like many other terrific American expressions of the style, Kelso Berliner Weisse succeeds at delivering a fresh take on the style while staying as close to style convention and tradition as any Berliner Weisse I've tried.
Incredibly well executed with no faults whatsoever. A delicious Summer beer I could down by the pitcher - especially given its sessionable 3.3% ABV.
