Roebling Bock

Light mellow yellow and thin bodied Bock. Little head and no bouquet on this beer. Very weak and lacks malt for a Bock.. The flavor is of wet cardboard and just not thirst quenching at all. Taste is lacking any real substance and the beer id just passable as being wet.

Hazy light golden color with a low ivory head. Low-moderate malt aroma (a bit grainy). Grainy malt flavor dominates. Medium bodied.

This seems to me like it's simply a stronger version of their River Horse Lager (which is a Helles, I believe).

Note: 12 Pack carrier states that the Roebling Bock is a Helles Bock.

Slightly hazy, peach-tinted golden body topped by a thin white head despite a vigorous pour. It does, however, hold a decent collar and a light surface covering throughout the glass. The aroma is interesting: malty with a cereal quality that's somewhat like ovaltine but also straw-like, sometimes fruity as you swirl the glass with notes of fresh cider and light oranges, and leafy. The body is medium with a restrained carbonation leaving it with a lightly creamy but somewhat dull mouthfeel. The flavor is just as interesting as the aroma with a mildly toasty cereal-like maltiness up front (Munich & Vienna malts? Maybe some caramel?), some apple-like fruitiness and evident alcohol as it warms in the mouth, and finishing with some spicy hops and a lingering, lightly sweet cereal-like maltiness. The bitterness is well-heeled and only shows at the swallow and in the finish after a few swallows into the serving. Although it's unusual, I do kind of like it as it's reminiscent of fall weather with it's apple cider, dried piles of leaves, and damp bales of hay. Unique and enoyable.

A nice amber/golden color. Medium body; lighter than other bocks. Nice aroma; slightly fruity, more likely from fresh malt. Great taste, right amount of bitter. Lighter and different for this class of beer but that is refreshing. Poured well, the head could have lasted longer, however not a disappointing presentation. Slightly creamy, smooth and crisp to the finish.

I'm not big on bock styles, or malty malty beer in general. I seem to recall most other bocks I've had to be darker and bigger bodied. This stuff had some body, but it's like Calista Flockhart hanging out with the girls at her local Jenny Craig, and claiming she's fat by association..
Altogether, I liked it. I'm not big on huge bodied malty beers. It's like beer candy. I like stuff that's drinkable and balanced. Roebling Bock is pretty malty, but it's not overwhelming. The hops are sitting in the back of the bus, but they still get off at their stop. This beer does have a lot of flavor and character.
My real complaint is the bottle label. This looks like something I'd do for a garage brew on photoshop. The River Horse logo is cool, but I have the exact same font on my computer that the beer name is written in. If anyone at River Horse reads this crap, you guys should try for labelling more like the Hop Hazard. All your other labels look retarded.

Originally had this beer several years ago when I toured the brewery. Then it seemed to have a pleasing, lingering maltiness that's somehow missing now. Detected a few off flavors, but not at all undrinkable.
