Poured from undated pint bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a hazy, honey-amber color with an enormous, thick, fluffy, egg white head that lasted through the pour. The nose is primarily caramel with lemon and tangerine notes. The taste opens with a lot of sweetness - initially from the heavy malt base but increasingly from the burst of tangerine and pineapple. In fact, it becomes very fruity. The Mosaic, Citra, and Lemondrop hops are flavorful and provide moderate bitterness. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation, and the 9% ABV gives it a lot of substance. It's more of a sipping IPA than a session drinker. Overall, Hippo's Hand is an enjoyable DIPA but without any quality that makes it special.

the weather, the damn weather will not break, so stouts and porters must sit further until this damn summer finally recedes into defeat... so back to the bright light of IPAs and double that, thank you

Foam? yes, actually enough to become the world's largest exporter of foam, geez... like a full fist of white fizz on top of this one, golden hue, almost straw, a lively tempest of bubbles undulating about like so much a beer-spout dancing, retention is annoyingly good (I mean the damn head is 10 feet tall...), lacing is also nice, this one needs a time out to calm down, not a terrible looking thing but damn fizzy

ahhh, nothing to help forget the awful yoke of a 13 hour day like the lovely enticing smell of piney hops smacking me upside the nostrils as if to say "dave, we got this, relax", pine and citrus light up the room inside the olfactory, for a double dry hop you might expect a little more honestly but I am ok with the nice hop aroma here, it definitely hits all the classic notes for me not all those newfangled mango/tropical hops I can't stand

taste etc...
more body than I thought it would have actually, the flavor is middling level bitter (well for this bitter fellow), good mouthfeel in terms of the carbonation level, slight warming from the higher ABV, some hop oiliness on the tongue, very smooth overall, just not curling my socks up

tasty enough, smells great less fulfilling. not bad if it is an option on yer table but there are better DIPAs all over the damn place, maybe they should just bottle the fragrance, Eau De Hippo...
