Originally reviewed August 10, 2005. 12 Oz Bottle. Nice amber hued gold, with a nice line of white crisp head. Effervescent. Sweet plain malt aroma, with a touch of grass. Flavor is pretty boring at first, of plain malt with the usual touch of hops. Ends with some caramel, more grass and a little saltiness. Not offensive, not amazing. Very drinkable and smooth. Palate is smooth and lightly sugary.

pours out a bright and clear copperish clour, with a thin fine head. this is a highly aromatic beer...lots of doughy maltiness...yeasty and bready. has an odd flavour profile...quite heavy for a lager...toffeeish malts and the distinct chewy graininess that wild rice adds to the experience. it seems overly yeasty and doughy. mouthfeel is fullish...this lager has lots of body. some bitterness in the finish is quickly subdued by the very long, odd aftertaste. and after all that, it comes off more dry than sweet after thinking about it.

this is a highly unique beer...drinkability suffers because i wouldn't want to drink more than one or two at a time. definitely worth a try, though.

brewed and bottled by gluek brewing in cold spring, mn.

Pours a clear, regal golden color....small white head...nose is interestingly enough like chocolate chip cookies...yeasty...doughy...chocolaty...medium bodied...a little sticky...flavor is doughy...bready....interesting chocolate notes....

Wow....nothing lke I expected...certainly seems misplaced as a lager as the bottle lists it...this has more meat to it..seems almost ale like despite its clarity...

Really not bad at all....interesting...wouldn't drink a lot of this but a sixer a year for a changeup is nice..

Appearance: clear, light yellow color, typical, with a big, lacey off-white head.
Aroma: an odd mix of corny and hoppy. Ew. Monk no like.
Taste: light in body, no texture, queer flavor, strangely sweet, and then disappearing into nothing...there's a hop content that doesn't appeal to me and it too quickly vanishes. A waste of time.
Not a bad beer, but just doesn't click in this case.

On-Tap: Color is a hazy deep yellow, perhaps much like a hazy sunset over a lake, but not really, no head was served with it but there was a tiny white ring and some tiny spotty lace. Smell is a nice sweet and lightly zesty surge to it. Lemony light, yeasty, and a hard dry bread dough-like backing. Seems like easy paddling ahead. Taste is lemon citrusy and some light yeasty hold in the middle with a slight hop twinge and finishes a bit dry, a bit thin, but relaxed and firm with maybe to much malts making it uneven. The oars aren't doing there job right on this trip. Feel is lighter to medium bodied, light yeasty grain feel in the middle and throughout the swallow, leading to a light dryness. Maybe lost direction on where to go after making the turn at smell point. From the smell I thought for sure this would be at least a good voyage, but it comes up short of portaging to the next lake.

Slightly hazy dull yellow color, very little head generation except a marginal ring. Pretty piquant aroma, like an assertive Wit with yeast and lemon. Assertive flavor, astringent with a pizza dough maltiness featuring yeastiness. Fades to a lemony citrus mid mouth, featuring a paprika like hopiness, and finishing fairly dry but with a somewhat unsettling swallow. Different, hardly a corn-laden Lager but was a little strange. If James Page survives, I may re-rate in the warmer weather.

Bit of a traditional lighter malt aroma of many Am. lagers. Golden yellow with a bit of cloudiness. Very thin head. Flavor is fairly bold and heavy. Carries nice balance of malt taste and hop bitterness, tipping towards more bitterness. Rather short finish with a bit of dryness. Heavier and thicker mouthfeel than Am. lager. Fully carbonated. Certainly prefer this to most Am. lager. Not sure I catch the exact flavor the wild rice has vs. traditional rice adjunct, but this is a bolder more tastier beer. Does alright as it warms too.

I had this one on a recent trip to Minneapolis. It's sort of a strange beer...not really what I expected, but I did enjoy it. There is a yeasty, spicy aroma that was somewhat surprising. Citrus is there too. The beer is light straw colored, and very cloudy with a small, stable white head. Initially tangy, slightly sour foretaste is contrasted with a bitter hop finish. It's different and it's worth a try.
