Part of the Peter Straub Signature Brews Adventure Series #1.Tight Lines Kölsch Ale is a tribute to the thousands of miles of trout streams, lakes, and waterways flowing throughout the PA Wilds™ like Pine Creek, First Fork, Slate Run, and the East branch of the Clarion. It wouldn’t be uncommon to find one of us perched on a bank or wading in a stream with our poles in the water and cooler nearby stocked with this light-bodied, slightly grassy, award-winning brew. The best part is, we’re always willing to share!

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a clear gold color with a thick white head. The head lasts throughout leaving some lacing in the glass as I sip. There's a lot of carbonation bubbles rising up in the glass. The smell is bready, a bit of grass, some herbal hop aroma too. I get a bit of grape too. Taste starts sweet and malty, a touch of bitterness creeps in in the middle, and the finish is sweet malt again with a grape/fruit undertone. Feel is light, soft, smooth. Overall, a good beer that sticks pretty well to the style. Glad I have a few more in the fridge.

Nearly clear (mild haze), straw color. The only demerit of this beer may be the lack of head and nearly zero lacing.
Clean pale malted barley dominates. Mild but appropriate graininess.
The taste is very true to the Kölsch style. The palest of malts are featured here with the faintest of hops. Refreshing from the thinner body and the elevated carbonation. Very easy to drink...perhaps the best lawnmower beer.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is straw, slight haze, great 2 inch puffy soft head.
Smell is great bready pilsener malt aromas - toast, crackers, bread, with some hints of grassy, herbal hops intertwined.
Taste follows the aroma with pleasant bready, toast, and cracker like flavors; hops are grassy and herbal with light spiciness.
Mouthfeel is crisp carbonation with a soft bready sweetness, then drying.
Overall a great Kolsch-style ale - good presentation, nice bready and herbal flavors and aromas, quite similar to the German originals.

The more I drink the better it tastes. Really. The finish is the best part very long and pretty dry an excellent beer for me.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.
Pale straw yellow hue, clarity shines and the white lacing on top makes this brew look spectacular. Fresh grain, grassy with herbal overtones from the hops ... very clean. Deep crispness, very smooth within the lighter body. A very faint winy and fruity taffy note in the middle, lots of crackery and bready flavors from the grain and delicate herbal flavors from the hops. Well balanced with a solid hop bitterness. Clean all around, dry finish is very refreshing. Would be incredibly hard to pick this out as an American brewed Kölsch.

Had this on 2016-09-22 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz bottle
A - Lightly hazy, straw-gold with a 1-finger white head and mild lace.
S - Baking bread, pear jam, honey. Quite pleasant.
T - Lightly toasted white bread, sweet pear flesh, light grass and spice. Nice balancing bitterness. Finishes dry with a very pleasant light fruit and spice finish. Tasty
M - Medium body and carbonation. Smooth and creamy at first, then dry with a light prickle from the lingering bitterness.
O - This is really good! I can see why it won bronze at the 2016 World Beer Cup for the style. I wish it were available outside the summer 12 pack, which I got on sale for less than $10, which is just ridiculous.

Poured into a snifter.
3.25 A: Well hazed dark yellow color. One finger of frothy white head that falls fairly quickly, but leaves a half finger of irregular lacing.
3.5 S: Smells just like I want it to. Musty earthiness, honey, hay, grassy hops. Clean and obviously well brewed with no off-aromas.
4.0 T: The taste definitely steps it up from the nose. Although it's similar to the smell, it's more potent and inviting. Dank earthiness with light woody notes. Hay and a hint of floral wildflower. Lemony with grassy and earthy hops. Subtle bitterness with just a touch of balancing sweetness.
3.75 M: Light to lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. A tad bit bity, but light on the tongue and refreshing. Seems like all of the craft beer styles from Straub have a similar mouthfeel, but it definitely works best with this style.
3.75 D: Easy drinking and super tasty. Probably the best Straub beer there is, but I'll be sure to try more just to make sure, haha.

A - Bright, vibrant gold color with a thin, dense white creamy ring of lacing, moderate amounts of carbonation.
S - Sweet honey malt and light floral aroma.
T - Sweet grainy honey malt base finishes with a delicate amount of floral bitterness to wash away the sweetness. The bitterness continues to build and comes to the forefront leaving the sweet malt in the back ground, but still present. Some lemon citrus is buried in the mix.
M - Medium body with soft, but prickly carbonation.
O - Refreshing and light.
