Part of the Peter Straub Signature Brews Adventure Series #3. Ancient Alt is a traditional “old” style of German Ale. “Alt” literally translates to “old” in German, fitting nicely with one our favorite areas of the PA Wilds™, Cook Forest. Famous for its stands of old growth forest known as the “The Ancients,” with towering white pines and hemlocks make it a National Natural Landmark. The forest canopy is between 350 – 450 years old. Now, we don’t quite age our Altbier that long, but it is well worth the wait. Copper in color, with robust German hops and malts this brew is ideal after a long hike in the woods during the fall and winter.

Interesting beer to try. But I wouldn't want a whole case.

look is copper with slight haze with off white head and fine bead
the smell is malt focused with slight bready notes
the feel is mostly malt with slight creamy body and dry finish with subtle spice
the taste is good with subtle nutty and dried fruit with light caramel and nice herbal hops
this is a solid take on the style with a slightly fuller feel yet very drinkable and clean

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bready malts. Taste is malts, lots of dark breads, a bit of nuts at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an easy drinking beer that I could easily pound several of.
