L- Black, clear (it's bottle conditioned), pours with a thin head of large pale bubbles which will be gone soon. Hmm, popping the cap also gave littled sound of escaping gas, hope it's ok.
S- Just a very mild toastiness to it.
T- Notable pungent coffee, then some smoke, and altogether pretty toasty. The coffee is pungent enough I immediately wonder if coffee has indeed been added.*
F- Unfortunately the carbonation in this beer seems shot, ie I don't get any in the mouth at all, and there is effectively nil left in my much used regular tasting glass.
O- The pungent flavours and apparent freshness mean I can still enjoy this, despite the absense of carbonation; and to be quite candid I mean this is as 'flat as a pancake' flat. Shame the flavour is good and I can see how on it's current 3 Ratings it's on an aggregate 3.8 score. Put it like this, based on the taste I'd be willing to give this another chance that I got a dud and it's not somehow designed to be like this.
500ml bottle, bought from Beerhawk/UK. BB: 31/Jan/21. ABV% on the bottle is 6.0%, versus 5.6% in the Description^.

*Ingredients aren't listed, just an allergy warning for barley, wheat and gluten. I don't associate that with a good beer, rather one hiding something like say adjuncts. So perhaps I wouldn't bother trying it again...

I had this beer at the Newcastle Arms in Newcastle, handpumped into a pint and served with a head that builds up from the bottom of the glass. The head turns into a thin off-white head on top of a dark brown beer. Not as dark as expected.

Smell is roasted, but not sharp or burned, actually quite mild. The hops are definatelly English, probably Goldings and bitterness is good. The hop aroma is not very pronounced. There is a nice English fruitiness.

Taste is roasted, but more chocolate malt than roasted barley. A solid base of pale malt gives a somewhat sweet malt taste and to me this is a sweet Porter, a new style. The hops are medium hoppy and bitterness is good. Drinkability is good, for an English beer 5,6% is high, but alcohol is very well hidden.
