Pours translucent red-tinted dark brown with an eggshell head that fades to a thin film on top and leaves faint spotty lace.
Smell is of tart pomegranate up front with roasted malt, molasses, faint coffee and a hint of nuttiness on the finish.
The taste starts with sour pomegranate up front with roasted malt and molasses on the back end.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.
The addition of sour pomegranate to the California Black Beer is a nice compliment to the malty, molasses sweetness of the base beer. A solid effort.
