On tap at Beach Chalet on 7/14/09.
A - Medium brown body with thin beige head that settled into a slim ring of retention and yielded a modest amount of lace.
S - Subtle roasty and chocolate malt with a hint of coffee and scant traces of earthy hops.
T - Roasty up front with subtle coffee notes. Chocolate emerges in the backend with some earthy, herbal hop bitterness that carries through to the finish.
M - Medium bodied with a thin and watery texture and mild carbonation. Finishes with a touch of astringency on the palate.
D - Decent porter, although I felt the mouthfeel was a little lacking.

It was a hot day. The beach was cranky, and the sun was angry. There was sand in my shoes -- and no parade. But me buddy and me, we were needin' a brew. Waited and waited while the growler filled. Watched the waiters go to and fro. Then sat in the sand and scarfed the frothy dark down. Good enough to quench the need. Good stuff, in the moment. You wouldn't write home about it. But you'd get it again on a hot day.

A decent enough porter, except for the shockingly thin mouthfeel. It actually felt lighter in body than the IPA.
Pours black with dark brown edging, almost no head. Smells like chocolate. Taste is basically chocolate, a little bit of coffee, and some roasted malt. Not overly strong in the flavor department.
Avoid.

Appearance> Tootsie roll brown, vanilla head which dissipated. Lively. Good lacing.
Smell> Slightly sour with notes of chocolate and toast.
Taste> True to its style. Perfect finish. Pretty well balanced.
Mouthfeel> Effervescent. Small bubbles. Not too shabby.
Drinkability> Not my fave porter, and not my fave beer from Beach Chalet. But, all in all its not bad and I'd drink it anyday over fruit beers.
