They called one of their brews "Imperial Stout" but the ABV is the same as this one. It's robust and flavorful, but hardly Imperial. So maybe it's just the Fleishhacker.
Black color with a tan head in the tall glass. Nice nose of roasted barley and coffee. Tastes rather grainy and a little chalky. Quite strongly flavored with some burnt sugar and lots of caramel. A tart aftertaste with a winey finish. Not very bitter. Medium bodied and more substantial than many Stouts, even with the modest alcohol content. Quite drinkable and one of the better Beach Chalet beers on tap.

Pours a flat black color with a very small and thin head.
Aromas are of cocoa, dark bakers chocolate, and some cream notes.
Taste is similar to the nose. Mellow flavors of cocoa, bitter chocolate, some creamy sweetness, and hints of espresso. Finish has subtle earthy bitterness. Flavors are nice, but subdued.
Mouthfeel is smooth, slightly thin.
Overall a pretty good stout that is very easy to drink.

I had this in the sampler at Beach Chalet.
Appearance- black color, thin head
Smell- chocolate, coffee, typical of a stout which is why I liked it lol
Taste- chocolate, coffee, very good flavor
Mouthfeel- full bodied
Drinkability- I thought it was very good. I would drink it again.

Pours with an impressive dark brown head from the growler. Beer is a dark coffee brown, so opaque that it made the clear glass growler look tinted.
The nose comes off with heavily roasted malts, chocolate and molasses.
The taste has a good balance of sweet and bitter with of course the heavily roasted malts mixed in with spice, lots of molasses and a leathery finish.
The mouthfeel on this beer was truly exceptional. I've never had a beer with such great viscosity that managed to avoid being sticky. I should mention the context - this was a fantastic brunch beer!
Drinkability always seems to be where the microbrews fall short of the major players in stouts, and this was no exception. This beer is so heavy that it is hard to drink. Yes, I know I gave it a perfect score in the mouthfeel for much the same reason, but hey, I'm just being honest about the tradeoffs.
All in all an amazing value at $8/growler, and a stellar example of a brewpub stout.

Enjoyed this one at the Beach Chalet in San Francisco, watching the Pacific crash into the continental shelf. Excellent spot for a beer and a good memory.
Obsidian body with a tan head that exhibits great retention and leaves fingers of lace on the side of the glass. Dark roasted coffee bean aroma with chocolate and smoke. Light smoky notes envelop coffee and cocoa to create a balanced dark roast flavour that's above average, but shy of great due to a lack of complexity. Smooth mouthfeel, erring towards the light side, which would be better if it was a touch heavier.
A nice easy-drinking stout, but not special enough to return to when there's so many great beers out there.

The label on the side of the bottle describes this beer as: "A slightly sweet full bodied oatmeal stout with a dry roasted malt finish." It pours an opaque black with a chocolatey colored head, but not to much carbonation. It has a slightly sweet smell, My first couple of drinks of this beer I felt the beer was a little confused in how it wanted to present itself. It was sweet with a roasty bitter finish( just like the label said) but it didn't seem to balance quite right, almost as if the two flavors were fighting each other. After getting farther along in the beer the flavors tend to mellow out a little bit making it pretty easy to drink. I think for a beer like this the mouthfeel needs to be a little heavier, besides that it is a good beer.

I had just watched Beer Nutz on Mojo where they featured a segment on Beach Chalet less than an hour before the box arrived... pretty cool to find a Beach Chalet beer in the mix.
Review:
The cap didn't give much of a sound when opened... but the pour seemed right... A nice amount of carbonation. Thick liquid... black with amber highlights. Smallish head, deep tan in color... dissipates rather quickly into a good cap... excellent amount of lacing.
Aroma is nice, but not a whole lot. Some good roastiness, a touch of coffee... a good malt character.
Flavor is pretty good. Nice chocolatey middle... somewhat dry, a touch chalky, but overall good. Nice malt flavor. A little smokey.
Flavors come out more as it sits... I like it better 30minutes out of the fridge...
I would never turn one down...
