This is another Beach Chalet beer that I actually had there in July 2012, reviewed from my contemporaneous notes. It is a more roasty, full-bodied version of the Riptide Red, otherwise very similar to that beer.
Almost black, it had a creamy small off-white head slowly shrinking.
Aroma was chocolate, earthy roasty maltiness, slightly winy, a bit similar to Riptide.
Taste is a darker, more chocolaty-roasty version of Riptide, some woody-earthy bitterness and light winy quality, well-rounded and balanced, more full bodied than Riptide. Overall, it is a great session and food-friendly beer, mellow yet with a firm, well-rounded character that holds up very well.
