Another very solid brew from this newly organized brewpub in Rochester. The scotch ale poured a deep, dark cola color with a thin light chocolate head. There was not much to the smell--very understated though there was some coffee aroma evident--so I was not quite sure what I'd get in the taste. Fortunately there was more in this area: coffee, figs, a hint of smokiness, all nicely balanced, though I found the mouthfeel just a bit thin. This really tasted more like a light stout or a heavy porter, because therfe was not quite the sweetness I expect from a scotch. A worthy brew, however, from a place that looks like it's going to be a winner.

Came in the pint glass with a little bit of head left. Color was a dull brown coffee amber. The smell had lots of coffee and some roast sesame seeds were evident also. The smell was also meaty, kind of like a nice roast pork, and it had a nice malt back. The taste was similar to the smell, heavy on the coffee, and there was again the sesame, although not as prevelant as in the smell. The taste of scotch was distinguishable and there was a small hop and malt presence. It had a mouthfeel on the thin side, with a bit of carbonation. Much like a thin stout overall.
