From Frankfurt Airport. Effervescent, crisp, citrusy and clean, with some pilsner grain in the finish. Nothing more to add. A very pleasant example of an unremarkable beer style.

'Best by' date is 04/26.

 

Very refined Hells lager - smooth, balanced

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Shared 500 ml swingtop bottle at local tasting, from Getränke Hoffmann, Harrislee. Golden colour, white head. Aroma of grassy hops. Smooth flavour, some dusty malts, a little grassy hops. Not impressive.

 

A light lager. Nothing special.

 

 

 

Served cold from 500ml flip-top bottle into Veltins straight pilsner mug. Best before date is February 2016, I am drinking this in August 2015, so presumably this is 6 months old.

L) Pale straw to golden, clear, lots of bubbles, dense white 5mm head. Looks lighter and fizzier than a typical Helles.

S) Hmm, smells more like a German pilsner, with no deep malty whiff, although the hallertau hops are there. Way underwhelming compared to even mainstream Helles like Paulaner and Augustiner.

T) Yeah, light on the flavour and more like a mid-range pilsner than a nice Helles. A bit of dry malt flavour, which warms out towards the end of the swallow, just leaves a bit of an off unfermented cereal flavour. No bitterness.

F) Carbonation and body is faultless to be fair. Just a bit of a papery aftertaste.

O) I count myself as a Helles aficionado and basically this one is sub-par, don't bother with it there are dozens of better, more readily available alternatives.
