A colleague purchased this in Tashkent and brought it back to Moscow for me. Standard brown half-liter bottle with a plain white label. Front label information is in German, Uzbek and Russian. The back label is all Russian. Purity law applies. Bottled on 10/6/03, I opened it on 11/15/03. Front label proclaims that this beer was brewed to a German recipe.
Pours a nice deep clear gold under a 2.5 finger off-white head that displayed a bit of contour before settling to film. Its fairly valiant efforts at leaving some lace prove ultimately unsuccessful. The nose is nice and flowery, full of hops and quite pleasant. The mouth is light and prickly. The taste opens with some malt sweetness, but the predominant taste is a nice fresh flowery hop bitterness that makes this brew a pretty darn good rendition of the style. The hoppy bite surges into the finish and leaves a very nice crisp aftertaste. What a pleasant surprise!
