Purchased in Tashkent, the domestic product comes in a standard brown half-liter bottle with a fairly plain silver label. The name is in German; everything else is in Uzbek and Russian. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Bottled on 9/30/03, I opened it on 11/16/03. Front label proclaims that this beer was “brewed to a German recipe.”

Poured clear copper under a one-fingered firm tan head that quickly settled to film and collar and left some lace. Nice caramel and hop nose. The mouth is light and prickly, with definite sweet notes. The taste is a good combination of caramel malt and nice potent hops. Sweet dominates the opening, but smooth bitterness soon takes over and drives the finish, leaving a good crisp aftertaste that recalls a bit of the sweet caramel, while underlining the hoppiness. Very nice product.
