24-ounce can graciously shared by yourefragile in line at the BA Sexual Chocolate release. Served in a SAVOR snifter.

Pours a pale yellow color that is mostly clear. Thin white head and a few spots of lacing as it falls to a thin cap. The nose brings some very light floral hops alongside some grainy, tannic malt. The flavor really falls down and carries almost no hop presence, mostly consisting of straight pre-mash grain and some tannins. Light body and no real bitterness, except from the grain. Not a fan.

This brew pours out as a clear looking golden yellow color with a thin white head that disappears pretty quickly. This beer has hardly any aroma at all. There really wasn't much in the way of hops here. The taste was pretty bland also. The mouthfeel was very light and carbonated. Overall the beer was bored and unimpressive.

This will be my last review for the three beers that Cold Spring is currently offering in a CAN. This one was a little more elusive than the others, but during the recent PHL Int'l Beer Expo, I ended up pouring for these guys for a couple of hours. I not only had one of these 2 Pint (= 1 QT, jagovs!) CANs all to myself, but I was able to bring one home for review. BA used to admonish us (and maybe still does) to spend some time with the beer before writing a review. A two-pint CAN does not give one many other options. In ham 'n' eggs, the chicken is involved, the pig is committed. When you crack open a quart CAN, you are committed, my friends!

A word on the CAN and its pour - given its massive construction, the opening is further back than in 12-oz. or pint CANs. This is important to note because there is going to be (not CAN or may be) some dribbling in pouring. My advice is to put down some napkins before beginning the pour.

The pour began with a finger of foamy ecru head that settled into wisps pretty hurriedly leaving behind some nice lacing. Color was a slightly hazy golden-amber. Nose had a nice grassy quality to it. Mouthfeel was medium with a pleasant garssy hoppiness on the tongue. Finish continued with a mild grassy hop quality. Therein lies the problem for me with this beer - it is pleasant, but it is not an AmeriCAN Pale Ale. It would do better as an English beer. Oh well.

Pours a rather hazy golden amber with a thin and fleeting cap of foam. A few floaties precipitate to the bottom.

Some clean caramel on the nose, bit of grain and a bit odd overall. Not bad nor good and somewhat metallic and creamed corn in nature.

Metallic nature conveys to the flavor yet remains subtle. Bit of citrus and dry grain. Bit of an odd lingering orange finish doesn't impress yet may have value for others. Feel is thin with an orange citrus close. Fair drink if you enjoy the flavor but I'm not in that group. Improves, or should I say you just get more used to it, with each sip. Unimpressive yet not obtrusive or highly flawed either.

Picked this up at a discount outlet, just because the massive quart o' pale ale called my name. I mean seriously, what does that say about the fine micros of today when we can now find them in discount stores in easy to drink hobo quarts.
Regardless, this is actually a pretty good beer, I mean it's just average in taste and color but given the negative points against it with the purchase location and serving type, the beer is an all around average beer and i'd pick it up again, but only for $.99 and in the quart, and with a raider game on.

Pours a clouded brown tones amber. Nose is quite malty with caramel tones. Flavor is quite malty and caramel laced as well. Not much hop influence going on except for a bite that hits on the backside. Doesn't really exhibit much hop character. Feel is thicker. Still nice to drink. But another of these pale ales that doesn't really show a lot of hop character and leans towards the English style (IMO).

Poured a murky burnt orange, with a fair head that head decent retention and notched the glass well.

Proper nose to this one, not overly strong or fantastic but definitely not bad. It is balanced well between sweet malt and rather indistinctive hoppiness.

Flavor is along the same lines, a little different probably because of the typical cold spring sweetness. It is balanced nicely, yet flavors are a bit subtle.

Body is on the lighter side, yet void of being watery. Carbonation is about right and the finish is a bit sticky.

It's a bit different, still true to the style. Very drinkable and enjoyable, the best beer to come from the Cold Spring name IMO.

12 ounce bottle from a six pack purchased El Segundo Wine and Liquor Shop for nine dollars, poure into a Stone pint glass

A-Golden orange color with some yellow highlights, 3/4 inch soapy white head that lasted around a minute or so, some lacing at first
S-Tons of pale malt, floral hoppiness, light caramel, bread, biscuit, and cereal
T-Pale malt up front, bread and biscuit mixed with caramel in the middle, faint bitterness in the finish, gets more grainy as it warms, not near enough hops to battle it out with the malt, too chewy and thick for an APA
M-Slightly grainy, bready, and chewy, medium bodied, low to medium level of carbonation, taste does not last long
D-I could drink a few bottles of this, light but way too much malt in the flavor, makes it feel even heavier than it is, not as smooth as you would expect from this style

Another beer from Colorado Springs that I am not too crazy about, just missing a good hop profile that a pale ale needs as far as staying true to its style, would not drink again, might be worth trying

Poured into pint glass.

No head. No head no retention, just like the other cold spring beers. Color is a musky dark orange straw. So far, it is not looking like a pale ale.

Aroma is roasty and carmel like. It smellls like a beer I have recently had... maybe a duble. A lot of yeast as well.

Taste is of bananas, yeast, carmel. Very Belgian like. Not tasting like a pale ale. I do like the taste. Also some nuts, spices, and raisins.

Mouthfeel is crisp on the palate., then gets creamy. Ends with a dry aftertaste. Well carbonated.

This is a great beer, but it is no pale ale. I was quite surprised of how good it was. Very easy to drink. But if reviewing this as a pale ale, I can't do any better than B- or C+

12 oz bottle into a pint, not dated

A - Pours a clear brown color - little hazing. Very filtered looking. Head formation is strong, a few mm - Well retained and eggshell white in color.

S - Piney and floral hops on the nose. Grapefruity - sweet. Very potent for an APA - almost IPA in nature.

T - Starts off with a very light flavor - really rather empty - but then starts to develop a bitterness. Finishes with that floral hop bouquet that was seen in the aroma. After taste is a somewhat nutty malt flavor.

M - Medium to thin body - light amount of oily residues. Moderate carbonation bite - certainly enough there to get your attention.

D - Very drinkable beer. Light on the palette. ABV is unknown, but it does not seem to be having a negative affect on me.

Pours with a thin white head and sporading lacing into my mug. A copper/beige tone to the ale. Smells of a standard pale ale, although not too strong on the hops. A bit of a peppermint scent in there too.

Taste is average/decent for a pale ale though I've had much better. It has a more sweet side to it than most. Bitterness is medium. Mouthfeel is light. Drinkability is a bit higher and I could do a 6'er of these no problem.

Overall it's an alright Pale Ale but nothing to write home about.

pours out a hazy copper colour with a thick rocky off white head which reduces to some spotty lace. typical pale ale aroma of some citrusy/minty hops and a good deal of pale maltiness. so far so good. the taste is balance of pale malts, leaning towards the toffee and caramel side, and some light grassy hoppiness. some washed out bitterness comes through in the end. a bit of a mineral water taste doesn't distract. medium bodied with a mouthfeel lacking in stature. kind of weak and watery. drinkability is ok...might be slammable in the summer as a thirst quencher, but for anything else it definitely lacks the character and sturdiness needed to be respected.

overall, i found this second craft offering from Cold Spring to be a "pale ale light". although a step in the right direction for the former Gluek brewery, it still comes off as a half-hearted attempt at brewing respect. not something i would revisit.

Thanks goes out to maximum12 for this brew.

Pours a nice hazy golden yellow color, nice carbonation, nice little fizzy white head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some hop notes, slight citrus. The taste is slightly sweet, malty, hoppy, bitter, with some citrus notes. Medium body. Drinkable, I like this one, not bad at all.

All right. I've been putting off the inevitable. Zap slid me this bottle and it's been sitting in my fridge for over a month. Time to get it over with. I feel like I'm going to the Dentist.

Pale copper. Thin ivory white head. Lace is sporadic. Aroma is kind of odd for a pale ale. I don't get much of a hop scent. But I do get more of a cream corn sweetness. Not impressed so far. More sweet than bitter on the palate. Sweet carmelly base. No creamed corn on the palate, which is good. Just a hint of minty hoppiness on the palate, which is better than I expected. Bitterness is quite low. Body is about medium and the carbonation is moderate. This is definitely a step up from the other samples I've had from this brewery (years ago, mind you). But it's still not to the point where I want to spend any of my allotment of money and/or tummy space on this when I can find countless other Pale Ales I like better.

A step in the right direction for sure though...

Cold Spring Pale Ale pours a finger of stiff lumpy foam over
a slightly cloudy amber brew. Carbonation is slow but steady,
and the nose is slightly fruit barley malt and a whiff of spicy hop.
The flavor is slightly sweet malt up front with a definite herbal
and grassy hop balancing it. The grassy hop persists in the after
taste, and the mouthfeel is crisp, finishing dry. Additionally, there
is pretty decent lacing all the way down the glass. I got this beer
as a free sample when I got something else at the liquor store. I
picked this one because I figured you don't have a lot of room to
hide in an American Pale Ale. I gotta admit, they do have competent
brewers in Cold Spring after all. I was really leery trying this one-
especially since these are the same folk who brought out the studiously
awful Jacob Hackstein "Pilsner" and Cave Creek Chili Beer. Is it any
good? Well, similar offerings from Schell, Summit, and even Brau blow
it right out of the water- but the point is that when tasked to do so Cold
Spring brewery is capable of doing a proper workmanlike job and this
brew certainly proves it.
