this was the best of the few beers we had here at dempseys, and a really excellent coffee stout by any standard. its coal black with a short but stocky and lasting creamy head. the aroma is of fresh ground coffee beans, not even brewed yet, artisanal and high quality, deeply roasted with char and bakers chocolate notes to it, really warming and inviting aromatically, nice for cooler weather. the flavor is as good as the nose, and there is almost no bitterness or acidity from the coffee, which is surprising for how forward it is in the flavor, they must have used quite a lot of it in this beer. some bitterness to finish, but it seems to be from the roasted grain more than the coffee, its dry but still creamy in feel too, perfect for this type of beer. nice body, palate coating without being sweet or heavy at all. long lasting coffee flavor at the end, but the beer part disappears quickly. really well made and delicious beer, the kind of stout you can drink by the pint. definitely my favorite beer we had in here.
