Source/Serving: Draft. 2009 Vintage.
Smell: Grassy hop aroma that has a slightly dark, aged overtones. Noticeable alcohol. Some faint golden grape notes. Honey and a floral note shines through as it warms.
Taste: Better than the nose. One of those barleywine's that really balances bitterness and sweetness...this one being slightly on the bitter side. Smooth light honey and alcohol lingers on the palette up front with grassy, grapeskin bitterness. But, once it hits the back of the throat a dry, well-balanced bitterness sets in that is slightly astringent and grassy. Rather than being fruity the middle has a grainy, honey backbone. Finish is dry with some ripe fruit and brown sugar notes, but has a lot of alcohol presence.
