Truth to tell; This one has been (properly) cellared since 2006 - that's eight and a half years.
I doubt that this beer was this fantastic when it wash fresh.
But, my friends; if you haven't cellared beer beford - it's time to get started. This one was divine - it felt like the supposed lovechild from portwine and a really nice English Strong Ale.

The colour is clear deep deep amber; the head is finger thick and beige.
The smell is rich and hoppy. Some lightly roasted semisweet malt, and a lot of citric-bitter-fruity-spicy hops. Good balance of bitter/sweet/spicy/sour notes.
The first taste is loaded with dried fruits: Apricots, raisins, apples, figs Then, a dry touch of bitter hops appear, followed by a lightly roasted malty flavour. The aftertaste is balanced with notes of raisins, sweet bread, toffee, almonds, milk chocolate and a hint of butter scotch and coffee. Classy!
The mouthfeel is very smooth with lots of small refreshing bubbles.
There is one argument against the series of Nils Oscars Julöl (Christmas beers): They are expensive. Even by Swedish measures (among the highest taxes on alcohol in the world, you know), SEK 48:50 (approx US $7) for 50 cl of domestic 7% beer is too much even for some enthusiasts, and by far the most expensive Swedish beer.
