RBESG 2006 Grand Tasting. Colour like sherry oloroso, minimal head. Sherry aroma too. Sweetish flavour with pastry notes, quite nice.

Well, first things first:
My bottle had expiration-date october 2009 (today is april 2015), and my question is; can an Old Ale get too old?
This was a fantastic experience; everthing was so smooth and well balanced. It reminded me of a mix between Tawny Port and an aged Rom, spanish style (due to the vibe of arak and molasses). And as you probably have guessed, there is also an obvious cherry-kernel sour bitterness.

2004 vintage
Pours a darkred, all clear beer with an almost non existing foam and some carbonation.
Smell is malts, some burned traces and also alcohol. There is a sweet and bitter character here, although its quite weak.
Taste is malty with some bitterness to it and a prickly carbonation. Sadly a relative thin taste. There are some traces of spices, bread and fruits. It has a "thick" feel and a quite nice finish.
This was really quite a dissapointment compared to last years brew. Really faint compared to the 2003 years version, lets hope next years brew is better.

Vintage 2004.
The colour is brown and the two-finger (slowly dissolving) foam is beige.
The smell is very fresh, but somewhat weak. There are notes of sweetness, some burned malt and spices (barbecue style).
The carbonation is fresh and powerful.
The taste is dry with lots of malt and some supplemental (sourish) bitter hops; there are notes of dark rum and dark bread. The body is generous and the taste is overall very balanced and well crafted: A pleasant drink. Aftertaste is fresh, a little sour/bitter and it is also well balanced.
This must be one of the most easy-to-drink 7% abv I did ever came across. Dangerous stuff!
