***Brassin (Batch) #1 (and only) - 2008***
First of three Bieropholie beers that i'm reviewing before this brewery is marked as closed.
Funny story about this beer. I first bought one for myself last year but ended up throwing it in a trade. I buy it again and then put it as a last minute addition to my CanBIF package. Many months pass and with economic difficulties, i'm wondering if this beer will pass me by. Finally, my wife finds a job so i call many places and to my dismay, none have them. But, after placing a call with Le Grand Duc, i'm finally able to score one for myself!
Poured from a 341ml. bottle.
Appearance: Pours a deep mahogany with a average sized off-white head with tinges of tan. Looks like burnished copper. For some reason, as i'm drinking it, i can't stop admiring the color. I'm really digging it.
Smell: A strong aroma of burnt sugar, caramel, dried fruit and a whiff of cognac to top things off. Delicious.
Taste: Throws a little bit of a curve ball at first. Dominant cloves and cinnamon at first but then segues into a more relaxed taste. Getting some sugar and faint traces of oak. I have trouble pinning down the fruit, figs maybe? It has a slight leathery finish but the overall taste is of spices which is quite pleasant.
Mouthfeel: Average carbonation with a certain dryness to it that leaves me a bit ambiguous. Surprisingly not too heavy but still a full-bodied brew.
Drinkability: The taste is pleasing and i would definitely have another.
Overall: A solid and very tasty offering. Much better than his Triple. Sadly, there is only one place left that still has it and his supply is dwindling. I hope he makes this one again with his new brewery.

Another shout out to papat444 for this brew. Served in the NotLA taster glass yet again.
A - Poured with a big late-rising tan foam that dissipated pretty quickly to a thin cap and ring. There's a few tiny spots of lace left behind. Semi-transparent red-brown color. Nice looking dubbel that could have used a little better retention and lace.
S - There's some dark fruitiness, but also a fair bit of Concord grape as well. There's also some light vanilla, caramel, and burnt sugar flavors in there.
T - The taste is really interesting, with a mix of grape, dark fruits, burnt caramel sugars, and caramel. Slight bitterness in the aftertaste. I like this better than a 4.0, but unfortunately it's not a 4.5.
M - Medium body, lots of residual stickiness, lower carbonation. Pretty solid stuff.
D - This brew gets a touch sweet and heavy after a while - not a style I generally dig in general. Still it was cool to try, especially considering most of these brews won't be made any more.

Bottle bought in Saint-Hyacinthe beer store*
le Sixième monde. or le sixieme continent on Cascade street.
I was looking for some new brews from Bieropholie
and I found this double. I picked it up.
the appearance was nice. Dark amber color, luminous beer when poured in a glass.
I smell some vanilla and hop
taste is good is not very a classic double in it's form. Because of that vanilla flavors.
Alcohol is also present but not too much.
the mouthfeel is good, medium carbonation
and the drinkability is good too.
Its a beer you better taste slowly and moderately because the alcohol is present( not too much) and pleasant so watch for yourself.
All in all, this beer is well balanced
but not quit classic in its style.

A: Beautiful dark red brew. Much darker than any other dubbel I've ever tasted. Head is off white and strong.
S: Some dark fruits sweetness. Some caramel and vanilla. Some yeast too.
T: Taste is the same as the smell but everything is bigger. The vanilla flavors are much stronger as well as the caramel. Some molasses are present too, but a bit faint. Dark fruits are still there and very present. Yeast isn't much detectable there. Taste makes me more think of a dopplebock or a Scottish ale/wee heavy but Dubbel is the style that the brewery gives it. No spices that would be very present in a Dubbel, anyway...
M: Bold and syrupy, surprisingly. Not much carbonation, surprisingly either.
D: Very very high. The beer is sweet, but it is not over the top. It is just correct. ABV is very very well hidden too.
